well i got 14dvda to try out when i get home, i got a dedicated dvda player however the emu1212 is clearly superior to it at the moment, my dvda is not fully modded.

I also think you should consider the 0404 for the money. After reading lan's comparison it sounded like without power conditioning, they were too close to call in detail and the 0404 had more punch.

It was the perfect choice for me because my Perreaux and A900s sounded good with my AV-710 but instrument seperation and detail really came out with this card.

I've read the A900 mentioned as "polite" and with the Perreaux, I'd have to agree. Now it has the attack and last bit of detail that was missing before but still retains the warmth and balance of the SXH-1/A900 combination. As soon as I get a good set of IC's, I'm done for awhile.

Someone here said that is sounds as good as a meridian 508.24 .

Is that from its analog out?

For $200(new) you can get quality that you would normally need to spend $1000 (used)? How can that be?

Any other ones who can confirm that the sound quality is THAT good?

I believe it was a modded 1212m that was compared to the 508.24

And don't forget, a CDP includes everything for playback at $1000, the E-MU will do absolutely nothing at $200 without a computer :p Factor in cost of transport, and power etc.

No,you are wrong, the stock 1212m was said to be superior to meredian 508.The modded was said to be about equal to meredian 588.

I could probably confirm since my friend has a meridian 507. i doubt that would be a fair fight since he always has insane IC's, power cables, power conditioners, hooked up to it, but its do-able.

I don't know about this. Hearing the 508.24 on Mikhail of Singlepower and Ray Samuels's amps, it sounded great and just so happened to be one of the very few times I liked HD650 (and I don't usually like it). This is in a meet condition which I find worst case scenario. Ray Samuels doesn't believe in power cords and conditioning but I do. I probably have a better audio computer system than most people. So you can consider my soundcards have the advantage and the Meridian having a disadvantage in my trials. There are many aspects to the characteristic of a source and I don't think the stock 1212m is clearly "superior" to 508.24.

Within the next fews weeks I should be getting a hold of a 404 so then I can write a review of the 404 vs 1212M vs Audiophile 2496 vs EWX2496 vs Revolution vs Chaintech --that is if I ever get enough time to write the review.

Thus far I must say the 1212m is my favorite out of all the cards I own (all of the above minus the 404)--it just provides the most balanced sound and detail out of all of them although I must say that sometimes I desire the warm tonal character and the aggressive sound provided by the Terratec 2496 (not to the say that the 1212m is laid back--the Terratec is just the most aggressive soundcard I've yet heard).

That sounds great! It will be interesting to see if the 0404 can deliver the detail of the 1212m while having a slightly more aggressive flavor, a la the Terratec 2496. I look forward to reading your impressions/review!
