I doubt they are using the same ADC and DAC (but I believe it is still high quality stuff), so stay tuned.

I don't like the idea of having another cable in the way. :/ But yeah this could be a good digital outcard.

Agreed.

RCA connectors and $60 that stays in my pocket -- that sounds like a better deal to me. But, of course the question is -- how does it sound?

And what's the big blocky thing on the dongle?

this AKM DAC is nice too, it will for sure sound different then CS4398, but I doubt it will be any worse.. you loose great ADC, for me it is also important, but for people interested just in playback, this card will rock! this will fit nicely between the Chaintech and 1212m

If you look at the picture full-size, the block has the words "E-MU OPTICAL" and what appears to be a pair of Toslink jacks. I assume it's the optical ADAT/SPDIF in and out.

Yeah, this does look nice as a possible digital-out card, and the analog section will probably still sound a lot better than an Audigy 2, which would do to tide me over until I get an external DAC.

EDIT: Even more promising is a post here which claims it's going to be $99.99 MSRP. Better and better...
