I'm just wondering if the E-bay Glass Optical toslink cable is one of the best to use.

I have one that is one meter length. The price was very reasonable, only about $40.

Would I get better performance from using a more expensive one? Or would spending more just be a waste of money

I also would like to know. I'm getting regular audio dropouts which I believe are due to a bad toslink cable. (It's pretty beaten up, physically.) In the past I've simply gotten whatever toslink cable was cheap / on-sale at the local Walmart / grocery store / etc.

Optical cable is optical cable for the most part. If you are getting drop outs, then your cable is damaged, because the 1's and 0's either get there or they don't. I believe MCM Electronics has a glass optical cable that is a little cheaper than ebay, but any undamaged optical cable will work just fine.
