Dynamic and electrostatic

This question belongs in the amps forum, if you're only interested because you're looking for amps.

Regarding amps, if you needed an electrostatic amp you'd know it. Thus, if you bought one, it would be worthless for you.

The difference is that dynamic headphones are called dynamic because they have a dynamic moving-coil theory of operation. Electrostatic headphones have an electrostatic theory of operation. They're entirely different methods, and 'stats require a high voltage amplifier (or step-up transformers) that would reduce a dynamic headphone to a smoking, molten hulk.

701's are dynamic, open backed cans.

Depends what you would like to pay, they are just two different constructions, and both have their ups and downs.

The design and function of the used transducer.
Moving coil (membrane, magnet and voice coil) vs an electrostatic charged diaphragm.
