DX320MAX Ti The musical event worth the wait. ROHM X 4. !! NEW Firmware: 2.03 !!

OK, so we are talking about DX320 MAX Ti charging. This was suggested by Vince (@Whitigir), I just got it, and confirmed it to work perfectly!

As many are aware, MAX needs 2 cables, regular usb-c for a digital battery and 12VDC for an analog battery. What does this mean? Carrying 2 chargers, including bulky 12V wall charger, not as much fun especially when you are traveling.

But, its 12V DC input can work of 15V as well, and I think it was mentioned up to 18V would be OK, but 15V probably better.

There are chipped PD usb-c cables with a fixed voltage output since PD output can vary depending on a target device. I got this cable by DSD TECH, only $10.99 on Amazon, and it does the job! Charges without a problem and doesn't overheat. It even comes with an optional connector for DIY wiring of other tips, but you don't need it because the tip of this cable is already 5.5mm x 2.5mm and it fits DX320 MAX Ti perfectly!

Just need USB charger with a dual output of PD and USB-C. I'm using one of my old 60W RAWPower dual chargers, but there are plenty of others. Just make sure one port is PD compliant and the charger supports 60W for higher voltage output, including extra margin. Looks a lot cleaner and more portable now :) With my usb-c charging monitor, I confirmed it works at 15V, drawing only 0.5A of current.

OK, a quick update. Ordered 12V version of that cable, Amazon overnighted it, and I just did the testing. It's from the same company on Amazon, $10.99 as well, a chipped PD cable with a fixed 12V output. Returning back 15V version.

So, the same deal here, going from this to that, very convenient when traveling and just a cleaner connection. The cable has 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC tip which fits DX320 MAX Ti (and other MAXs) perfectly. Just remember, use dual output charger with PD output and 60W rating for extra margin:

Btw, draws less power (15V x 0.5A = 7.5W vs 12.1V x 0.57A = 6.9W) which is important because extra power with 15V means bringing more heat to MAX, thus 12V is better:

So, I stand corrected, PLEASE use 12V version of this PD cable :)

Excellent! Thanks for testing !!! Loved my powerbank which doesn’t support 12V. However, for the 320Max, it will be worth it to buy another 🥲

Which charger do you use for this setup?

I have an ancient PD/usb 60W charger by RAWpower, probably rebranded "brand", got it 7-8 years ago and it's no longer even listed on amazon. The key here is to get a charger with a high enough power rating. For example, there are many chargers by Anker and UGreen with their smartIQ usb-c ports. But if it is rated at 20W or 30W, it will cap the output at lower voltage. I have one of those Anker nano chargers, 30W, with a smartIQ adaptive output. But when connected with this PD cable it only outputs 9V. PD standard has support for 9V, 12V, 15V, and 20V outputs at max 3A each, so you will need at least 60-65W for the charger to support these voltages. Plus, also need to draw from 2nd usb port.

Yahoo, I got a 12 volts cable. yahoo. I looked at what I was using, it was a 12 volt. Wow, am I smart. lol And then I also realized I am using a charger for both the digital and analog batteries, a multiple output PD charger. So one charger. I had forgotten how I had it hooked up. . . . . I don't know. . . .

Lol!!! That is ok, you and me both tried to form a solutions back then when we had dx220Max :). But I guess as we only use the Max from home and to the office , or around the house, we don’t really worry too much about the convenience of one charger with 2 cables that can charge everything including Max :). I did a DIY solution and I am pretty sure that you got something off AliExpress or so

I got some chipped cables, a long time ago off of Aliexpress but the 12 volt cables I have here I got from Amazon and the same for the 3 output PD charger. I think it is 60 or 90 watts and it is a nice all in one charger.

It is funny/ironic. I am working on a Waterbury Spider clock that is 140 years old while listen to an ultra modern dap. lol

Random question for fellow 320 MAX owners…your gain control knob does it have some physical resistance and a “click” between each setting?

I finally took it off setting 1 and there was no resistance on mine between settings 1-3, just a smooth turn of the knob. Since there is no resistance, I’m observing it land in some in between settings that seems to default to max gain. Playing with it a bit does let me dial in the right expected gain setting.

From setting 3 to 4 I get resistance and the transition is always perfect.

This feels like a defect to me but figured I would inquire here.

Thoughts?

My gain knob has resistance (slight) between settings and a firm "click" when you land on a particular gain setting for what it's worth.

First time Max owner checking in...I've been wanting to try a Max for quite some time, and finally took the dive with the 320 Max.
while it's early days, a few quick impressions:
-the form factor is actually not as brick-ish as I expected; certainly understand the "transportable" label, etc., but it's nto as bulky as I was expecting
-versus my 322-EXN, with the MSE, the two most obvious differences are soundstage (significantly wider left-to-right) and tighter, better controlled bass; I also think (but need to further listen) the treble is a bit smoother
-I'm using ultimate mode, D2, gain 2

-quick test with the Solaris Stellar Horizon, I just flipped down to gain 1; soundstage on the Solaris is already quite spacious, and the 320 Max stretches it even futher (again, versus the 322-EXN); I am not hearing any noticable hiss for those interested

very happy so far with this purchase!

Yes, the gain knob and the volume wheel both click for me between any setting. Sounds like it may be defective?

Thank you both, that confirms my hunch. I sent an email to @Andrew DiMarcangelo at Bloom Audio. I'm sure between him and iBasso, I'll find a good solution.

I'm just hoping it doesn't involve shipping it back to China for several weeks to get fixed !
