I put in an order for a DX240. The new WM1AM2 was tempting but the danger of being mistaken for a Sony fanboy is a total buzzkiller.

Just got forward this by a FB friend. Any ideas ?

Ok upon further investigation seems to an amp less version for those who just want to use DX200/150/220 amp modules?

I guess already existing owners can buy Amp8mk2 (or not)

new possible owners can choose between dx240/amp1mk3 or dx240 and a separate purchase of amp8mk2

Dx220 owners wanting to upgrade can buy the dx240 (no amp) and amp
Faceplates and use amps 1-8…

Was seriously considering a DX240 (still am) even though I much prefer volume buttons over a wheel, but then see its yet another DAP with just 10hrs battery life.

Will keep my 'fanboy' WM1AM2 pre-order in place with its 40hr battery (18hr for streaming apps). I've not had the WM1 series previously either or an iBasso.

The screen on the DX240 looks high-end smartphone grade, but seeing as I only use a DAP for music the screen is off most of the time anyway.

Currently back-reading all I can on the DX240 :relaxed:

Size/weight preferable over the Sony for sure, but had a ZX507 and always battery watching so want a DAP with more power stamina and I only use easy to drive IEM's anyway.

Note: Anybody after one in UK you can get 15% of iBasso at AMP3 at the moment : AMP3DIST15

I’ve been looking at the DX240 the last few days, after reading a little of the reviews & just applied the discount code…..tempting ! ( I’d have to source a connector for 4.4m balanced. )

I wasn’t going to buy another DAP…..& mainly own Sony DAP’s…..

Just received my RSV 2 days ago and wow, its synergy with DX240 is really great. Smooth and musical. An ideal sound for my liking.

Wait until more info released about new Sony daps. As you already discovered, 40hrs playback time is not realistic, even they mentioned you can only achieve it playing 128kbps mp3s with everything disabled and screen off and at a very low volume in low gain. So, playing high res files is more realistic at half of that time. Then, it was disclosed about using ancient processor to run Android 10, and I read one source where Android downsampling only bypassed when using Walkman app, but not with other apps (don't quote me on that, need more confirmation).

Their full spec shows 40hrs in the Sony Music app for 96/24 flac via balanced for your own files. That's amazing for an Android based player and if 18hrs for offline Tidal/AmazonHd/Spotify that's great too. Its also Android 11 not 10 so long support time. DX240 seems to be Android 9

BATTERY LIFE - CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK MUSIC(W.MUSIC APP)MP3 (128kbps) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 40 hrs, MP3 (128kbps) / Balanced standard-jack: Approx. 40 hrs, FLAC (96kHz / 24bit) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 40 hrs, FLAC (96kHz / 24bit) / Balanced standard-jack: Approx. 40 hrs, FLAC (192kHz / 24bit) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 35 hrs, FLAC (192kHz / 24bit) / Balanced standard-jack: Approx. 35 hrs, DSD (2.8224MHz / 1bit) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 25 hrs, DSD (2.8224MHz / 1bit) / Balanced standard-jack: Approx. 15 hrs, DSD (5.6448MHz / 1bit) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 18 hrs BATTERY LIFE - CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK MUSIC(OTHER MUSIC APP)MP3 (128kbps) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 18 hrs, MP3 (128kbps) / Balanced standard-jack: Approx. 18 hrs CHARGING TIME (FULL CHARGE)Approx. 4.5 hrs

I have the WM1Z and was interested in the new Sony but with such low power, which is not enough for some headphones, which the DX240 power easily, and an old CPU, I have no desire to go backwards. I have also read that some prefer the sound of the 1Z over the new Sony. So appears to be more of a sideways update rather than going forward. I also have not run the DX240 out of battery. Running over 10 or 12 hours doesn't matter to me. I never saw it as a benefit with the 1Z to have a long battery life but low power.

Yeah, and 1Zmk2 going to be bigger and probably heavier then original and still only 125mW @32ohm from 4.4mm bal output :frowning2:

Its certainly limited in many respects but I like Sony sound. Maybe I should go DX240. If I used headphones I'd probably not even consider the Sony.

"Android downsampling only bypassed when using Walkman app". So the same as ZX500. and what's with sony using the same AMP @250mw 16ohms. That's not a lot of power by today's standards.

OK I'm convinced to give DX240 a try seeing as 15% off code only makes it £720. Will keep my Sony pre-order for now.

Going to stick with included amp for now as most of my cables are 2.5mm balanced and only using IEM's so shouldn't need the extra 4.4mm power and reduced battery life.
