I have a lite-on dvd rw in my computer, and a standalone panasonic dvd player for tv purposes. I have been noting that some slightly scratched dvds will not read in the lite-on while they play fine in the panasonic... Is there a way to see if the dvd drive is on its way out, or if it just cant read certain discs, etc? I feel this may be a recent problem with the dvd drive, as it never had problems before.

My guess is your DVD drive is on the fritz. Probably the laser or the pickup is having problems. The good news is a DVD-RW DL is like $60 these days so a replacement isn't a big deal.
