I've got a few similar crazy experiments under my belt, most were not great sounding but were a lot of fun!
 
Buried somewhere in the Orthodynamic thread are my "Octodynamics", an 8 driver (4 per side) monstrosity.
 
Most recently I took a crack at some DIY AKG K1000's, which were better sounding than they probably should have been, but lacking in bass.

I could be wrong but it looks like he basically made an isobarik sub with the two drivers in push pull configuration. I would imagine the bass is substantial

Awww they're locking the thread since it ended in a flamewar. The person that performed the mods was proclaimed a heretic when he said his modded $25 drivers sounded better than the stock HD600/DT880 drivers from Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic.
