Is there an option similar to the Sony z1es that is all in one storage and playback that’s a little more financially responsible?

Basically a desktop digital media player with dsd playback(thx and airplay would be nice bonuses) where I’m not connecting a source like my phone/iPad/pc to a dac and then amp. I’ve been using an m11 pro and I just don’t like android devices.

Or am I stuck connecting a thing to a thing since I’m not wanting to spend the money Sony wants for their player?

If you don't mind a little bit of DIY, I'm quite happy with a Raspberry with Volumio. Volumio's free tier allows for blayback from a USB connected pen or hard drive (and several other options/sources).
I'm not familiar to the Sony device you mentioned, but this solution covers the the DSD and AirPlay, and can be controled via wi-fi from a PC, tablet or phone.
You'll need a DAC, that can be external via USB or a board mounted on the Raspberry.
