Alright turntable nuts, I have the chance tof purchase a Dual 701 in very good condition from a friend for a reasonable amount of money. I'm just wondering what would be an equivalent model of modern turntable - ie is it closer in performance to a MMF2 or MMF5?

If it is worth buying, I'm thinking about upgrading the cartridge. It currently has a old Grado FC+, any ideas?

The table itself wasn't bad as far as I remember, but the arm wasn't very good. Looking for a Thorens TD146/147 might be a better idea...

I wouldn't. The "700" series arent the best that dual ever made. They went right along with the "more watts=better sound" ideals of the 1970's.

The best tables by dual were the CS-5000, and the CS-7000. I haven't heard much about the newer models, but i'm sure my buds over at the vinyl asylum would be the ones to ask.
