I just purchased Sennheiser 360s which are headphones that have a microphone attached so it uses two 3.5mm plugs. This works for now on my 2010 MacBook Pro, but the newer ones only have the single port, but accept the plugs that are the combined headset/mic (I'm not sure of a lot of the technical terms, sorry).
 
I found an adapter, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SK66OY/, but I'm wondering if this is going to negate any benefit of having the nice, expensive headphones?
