See all these Beyers with and without Pro marking at different
prices etc. What's the deal? Are they different, if so, what's the difference (sonically)?

Cheers,

Dennis.

the pro is the older versions, the new version is 2005-editon and they are supposed to sound a lot better. there is also 32, 250 and 600Ohms that you can choose in the new versions, the 600 is supposed to be better than the lower if you use a strong and good amp.

Uhhhh, no.

Regular = plastic headband, double-entry coiled cord.

"Pro" = single-entry cord, leather covered metal headband.

"Edition 2005" = pretty

fwiw there's absolutely nothing at all wrong with the plastic headband. I've never heard of one breaking.

Which model years are you referring to?

I've never seen Beyer use leather covered headbands.

Lets break this down so it's easier to understand. Beyerdynamic, in 2005, released their redesign of the DT 770, DT 880, and DT 990. These new models can be customized through the "MANUFACTURE" program, and offer impedances in 32, 250, and 600 ohm varieties.

According to their website, the old DT 770 Pro and DT 990 Pro are still in production. Beyerdynamic also released the DT 880 Pro which is only available in a 250 ohm impedance and shares the same headband as the other Pro series models. The Pro series headphones have a tighter clamping force, shorter extension of the earcups, and as mentioned above, a different headband.

All of these models use single-entry cables. Hope this clears up any confusion you have.

Really?

You've never seen a DT-770 Pro?

Shure that's all valid information.... but how much do they differ soundwise??
Can I for example buy the DT990Pro instead of the DT990 without much of a different in sound or are they all very different beasts compared to the "old"
pro versions??

He probably means that the $25 beyer headband pad on the pros are pleather, not leather. Which is true. I think the MANUFAKTUR 2005s have the option to get a real leather headband pad tho.

The PRO-versions are very good value, in my opinion, but the consensus is that the fresh consumer models have an enhancement to the midrange that audiophiles here prefers...

Wildebassman, I also thought about such a username when I started here. Glad I was able to resist, as things (especially bass reception) can change in the course of time.

My recommendation is rather the DT990 thus. The 770s are really extreme.

Hint:
HQ fons such as HD650 can also be EQ'ed to sound totally booombeyerish and have a much higher possession half-life as direct result.

Yes, but EQ here is regarded as a cardinal sin, unless it comes in the form of a cable.
