I've been looking at DT880, which version should i get? 32ohm? 250ohm? 600ohm?

What are their advantages and weaknesses?
or if someone can link me to a thread which already has the answer?

as for the amp I'm prob going to get it at the same time if i decide to get the DT800 so... just tell me the answer as if i have a AMP and good DAC

If you're not going to buy an amp, then its the 32 ohm by default.

The other two are difficult to drive, though it may be possible for the 250 ohm version. The 600 ohm version is a no go. Nothing short of a dedicated amp is going to adequately drive them.

If you have a good amp and dac. Then I think I'd go for the 600 ohm. I've heard that the sound smooths out and becomes a little more refined than the 250 ohm. Of course the 600 ohm version is going to be tougher to run and will need better pairings. At least that's what I've read.

yeah, as far as beyerdynamic goes (definitely not all headphones though), with few exceptions >ohms = better.

Definately the 600ohm. It has a lot less sibilance than the other version and overal is said to just sound more detailed etc.

I've heard that it isn't more detailed, just the general tonality is more pleasing to the ear.

600 Ohm. I've never heard anyone say the 250 (for any of beyer's models) is better than the 600. The only thing is the whole 600 ohms thing.

Skylab (the resident Beyer expert) says tube amps are the way to go.

At least a few people prefer the 250ohm over the 600, including Donald North who is no n00b. Most who have heard both *seem* to prefer the 600s, however. Whether that means they're "better" or just a different sound signature I guess is debatable.

If you get the 600ohm, just make sure you have an adequate amp to drive them. Saying you plan to get an amp is one thing, but actually getting one that will do the 600ohms justice is another.

For a shameless plug, consider my Jade tube amp for sale in the f/s forum. That is said to drive the 600ohm DT880s really well, according to people here "in the know" who have heard them both. And it will obviously drive the 250 version, too, so either way it's a good amp for the beyers.

"Better" is always subjective so i'd say different sound signiature. Its just usually preferred then
