Just received my DT880 2005... and I must say I'm very impressed by the detail and soundstage (compared to my PX100), but I'm displeased at the politeness of the bass. There's no "thump" whatsoever.

Problem is I can't go back to my PX100 after listening to the DT880

Will the DT880 open up with time in regards to bass? How much should I burn it in? How about some foobar EQ'ing?

Mine probably has 100+ hours on it (haven't been counting)... the bass has opened up somewhat, but not that much. Basically that "polite" sound is the sonic signature of the headphones.... I can see how it would be especially noticeable after PX100s

.

Would suggest just getting used to it... not that hard to do, and you might come to appreciate the quieter bass letting you listen longer without ear fatigue. Either that or get a second headphone for those tracks that benefit from thumpy bass.

Yes I agree, I was just thinking about the definite bass fatigue. No way can my wallet survive another pounding. I need cables for my EMU 0404 so perhaps that will help things out
