Hey everyone I've been searching the forums and reading reviews for a while and i'm going to buy some DT770s. I just need to have some things clarified before I buy! (In the UK).

Firstly, I've noticed different versions of the 770s around. Some are grey in colour some are black. Why is this? Different models? Different sounds?

Here is what I mean:
Grey - http://www.headphoneworld.com/images/big/BD-DT770.jpg
Black - http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_i...0f835fdf9b.jpg

Secondly I've seen 250Ohm and 80Ohm versions. What differences are there between them - Which should I buy for gaming and casual music listening.

Thirdly I've seen different names, such as DT770 Pro...Premium DT770...Any differences?

Finally - What sort of price should I expect to be paying?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

-Matt

EDIT: Oh yeah, any UK shop recommended by anyone?

EDIT 2: Oh I've ordered some DT770 Pros from iHeadphone.co.uk - They're the 250 Ohm version, purely because they were in stock! Should arrive tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend a good amp for them? I'm on a fairly tight budget...£30 - £60.
I'm mainly going to be using them from my laptop (Dell M1710) if that makes any difference.

The 'grey' one is what people refer to the DT-770 2006. I believe it came out last year. They can be had in 80, 250, or 600 ohm (I think 600 is only through Manufacture). The 'black' one is the older DT-770, which actually come as either the DT-770 or the DT-770 Pro. Some have said the newer DT-770 sounds less bright and less bassy.

Actually the "grey" one, the 2006 version comes in 32, 250, and 600 ohms, there is no 80 ohm version.

The 80 ohm version is the black version, although there were also 250 ohm versions of it (and long ago a 600 ohm version). This is the "older" version, and only the 80 ohm version is still available. The 80 ohm version sounded quite a bit different from the 250 ohm version, and with smoother highs, and less recessed mids.

Overall the 2006 DT770 is better balanced, with still above average bass output and a slightly recessed midrange, which also gives the impression of a slight excess of treble energy. But still a very enjoyable headphone.

Ok I'm going to go with the older model, purely because they're cheaper and judging by your comments, I think I'd prefer their sound.

Can you tell me what the difference is between DT770 and DT770 Pro?

Edit: Skylab your Darth Beyers look tasty!

Darth Beyers are the best DT770 available, by far!

The DT770 80 ohm are "Pro". The 2006 ones are not "Pro".
