hi guys
smily_headphones1.gif

I'm thinkin of buyin some DT770 pro ( 250 ) for sue on the train and planes and im just wondering how good thier islolation is and how well they will be driven by something like TA.

If anyones has some EX70's and the DT770's could you tell me how the isolation of the 770's relates to them

for your needs I would wholeheartedly reccomend the Beyerdynamic DT250-80 over the DT770. They're very easy to power (A TA would be just fine) and they're much smaller than the DT770's. They also sound spectacular, block a lot of noise, and are very comfortable. if I can ever afford them they'll probably be my next headphone purchase, in fact.

Hey Neruda - how do they compare to the 770?

Because.....I'm thinkin of upgrading my cans next year (first get some more music!!!).....and.....I'm basically considering AKG 501s, Beyer 770s, Beyer 990s, AKG 401s (NOT that much, tho - sorry - I doubt they'd be a significant jump from my 495s....and the 501 are just a few more bux), and V6.

Hmm.....the Beyer 250-80 sounds interesting, tho.........

EDIT: heh - switched the ()......

V6s aren't a good main-leisure listening phones. They're great for the price, and they're good portables but I don't listen to them in lieu of more musical headphones.

No offense, but have you actually tried out the DT770? I read the thread(s) where you said you've tried the 250s, but I don't recall seeing anything by you about the 770s. Are they really much smaller? From the pics I've seen it looks like the 770s are a bit smaller, nice and round, while the 250s are big oblong things.

I don't know the TA, but there are some statements that it works better with higher impedance phones. The new DT 770s are 250 Ohms, and there are DT 250-250s as well (but I have never listened to them). All those Beyers attenuate ambience noise by about 16 dB, which is quite a lot, and there is very little sound getting out, as well. The DT 250s have slightly higher efficiency, but the 770s are driven quite well with anything that has a headphone jack, that's my experience at least. And the 770s sound better than the 80 Ohm version of the 250s.

The DT 770s are bigger and a little heavier than the DT 250s, but I'd say the 770s are more comfortable, because the 250s exert more pressure (4.5 N vs. 3.5 N) and aren't completely circum-aural if one's ears are large.

yes Toe, I have listened to the 770. I found them bassy and unmusical. This was the new 250 ohm version, and I listened to them with several amps.

Personally, I prefer the DT250. I know tomcat will disagree with this, but I have to trust my ears. I really can't figure out what he likes about them so much! I know that about 20 people could say the same thing about me with my K401's, though. I guess we all have different ears after all.

as far as size goes, the 770's are almost as big as my AKG cans. they're just a fraction smaller. That makes them quite large. The DT250's on the other hand just barely fit all the way around your ear. they're the exact same size as the V6's. That makes them reasonably small

Here, I'll post some pictures of this.

Wow, could they have put a bigger plug on that cable-into-the-earpiece? It looks like a WattGate IEC plug!

jude: LOL!!!

You're right.....that plug is gargantuan (sp.) in size!

sheesh.....

yeah, the plug is massive. I believe it's meant to be used with a boom mic if needed, so it might have a place to connect one. And it's attached using some sort of seven-pin connector, but stays on quite firmly with the help of a single screw. You never notice the large stalk-like bit when you've got them on; in fact, it can actually be useful in some ways...
