DT770 Pro (old version) vs DT770 Pro(2005)
Jun 25, 2007 at 2:02 AM Post #16 of 30
The pics GSurge posted are correct. I'd have to agree with EsthetiX in saying if you're after the sound sig the DT-770 is renowned for, you're better off with the older version DT-770/250ohm or as a second choice DT-770/80ohm, although the 80ohm version is slightly more "balanced". Other than being a bit more "balanced", the 2005 version has no other improvements (if you could call that an improvement) over the older ones.

I dont think so. The photo put on by Esthetix of the new 770 Pro, is the same as Gsurges old pic
Gsurges new pic is the 770 Hi Fi version.
All very confusing I know.

I'm pretty sure Beyer has replaced their old line with new models. Ie, the DT-770 Pro/Consumer editions become the DT-770 Hi-fi aka DT-770 2005 model (the grey one in GSurge's pic). All the black coloured ones are the older models, including the Pro model and the M model (with high clamping for drummers). There is no new model Pro edition.

the new one has noticeably less bass. slightly less recessed mids though. fwiw I have heard both and owned the 2005 model for about 5 months.

A very important factor for me was the 2005 model doesn't clamp with very much force. I like the dt770pro's higher clamping force.

no, i know they like the dt770pro80 vs the dt770 250, but before whenever i saw old / new i'd see dt770/80 = old, dt770/250 = new. but now people are saying there's an old and new dt770/80, so i was wondering if there was actually a difference or if i'm misinterpreting what he said or what.

Ok..... when dealing with the DT770 type headphones you have to be very careful when to add the "pro" and when not to.
Soymilk, this is where you confusion is.

There is a:
(Super old)
DT770pro 600ohm
(I think???)

(old)
DT770M 80ohm (drummer)
DT770pro 250ohm
DT770pro 80ohm (most popular)

(new)
DT770 250ohm
DT770 32ohm
DT770 600ohm

Note that the new version does not have the "pro" associated with it. These are the 2005/2006 version. Sometimes people will leave out the "pro" to save a few keystrokes, but by doing that they are refering to the wrong headphone. ^_^

isnt there also pre 2003 beyers with the same names, then 2003-2005 versions, then 2005-current version?

For me, DT770/80Pro > 2005 DT770/250 > Old DT770/250.

YMMV.

Hello Mal,
thank you for your mail! Unfortunately there is no DT770Pro 2005 edition: we offer the DT770 in a 2005 edition as hifi-headphones (http://www.beyerdynamic.de/cms/Premi...ctdatabase_pi1[showUid][showUID]=173&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][backPID]=105&cHash=09905ce43c, with a changed housing) or the DT770Pro (http://www.beyerdynamic.de/cms/Headp...ctdatabase_pi1[showUid][showUID]=44&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][backPID]=93&cHash=cd6f9075a1) with either 80 or 250ohms as the studio and stage standard phones. They are technically very similar, but the Pro-version has a slightly harder headband and a higher pressure to the head (3,5N instaed of 2,8N of the 2005 hifi-version).
The pre-2005 hifi model of DT770 looked like the actual DT770Pro, but as we discontinued this hifi-version about two years ago, I´m sure, you will receive the actual model - if you ordered the hifi-model
Have lots of fun with your new headphones!
