I have a pair of DT770's that I use during the workday and store in a drawer when not in use. I wrap the cable in circles around the headphones. While in use, I keep the headphones plugged into a laptop on a standing desk, with the bulk of the cord dangling off the desk.

After owning the headphones for several months and using them as described above, the cable will always twist up on itself while hanging off the table, effectively halving its length. If I manually try and undo all the twists, they just form again after I let go of the cable.

Is this caused by the way I have been storing the cable? Should I be using an over/under method to wrap the cable up, as described in this video:

Is there any way to permanently undo the twists that keep forming in the cable? I've tried laying the headphones out with the cable fully extended for a couple days, but the twists just reform again when I go back to using the headphones as described above.
