I've been looking at headphones at around the $200-$250 and these are the headphones that I've found. Which one would you recommend for Competitive gaming & Casual (50% Competitive & 20% Casual.) and Music (Rap & Edm 25%, Jazz 5%). If there is any pair of headphone that are around the $200-$250 Price range that will fit my music genre and have great positional audio in games, please let me know about them. I don't have a dac/amp and don't really know if I need one, If I do my budget is $100, Thanks In Advance

I own both the DT880 and DT990,
The DT990 has a strong bass/treble.
The DT880 is more balanced and slightly on the bright side.
But I prefer my Soundmagic HP200 headphones, kind of like a sightly improved DT990.
A Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card or Asus Strix can drive headphones.

+1 on the DT770 suggestion while being closed headphones the DT770 are quite decent for gaming .. I use these at home because my wife complains if i use the my DT880's =\

both of these headphones benefit greatly from a warmer amp... more so with the DT880's .. between the DT990's and 880's the 880's would be / were my choice the treble is too much for me on the 990s

imho dt770 is too good. will burn in a bit during first 12h of use.

modern 770 have bassports (on each cup) which was not available on old 770s.

there is two worthy models - 80ohm and 250ohm.

80 ohm is more bassy. there more lows. mid are a bit more recessed. clear V-shape. straight cable.

250ohm is less bassy. there is a bit less lows but it is still has V-shape. coiled cable. this one is more commonly available in studios.

require similar amount of ampling due to low sensivity. 80ohm a bit easier.

you won't get anything better at 170$~ amazon asks for it.

if you insist on 880 vs 990 then i would recommend 880 (premiums ftw! get 600ohm if your amp is capable of driving them. don't go for less then 250ohm on any of these headphones) due to how sturdy and unique they are.

880 does not feel as open (leak a bit less) as 990 but it is still open.
