Just curious how these headphones compare to each other. I have a pair of HD-580s and was wondering if either the DT-880 or HD-595 would be a worthwhile upgrade. i listen to a wide range of music female vocals, jazz, and rock. i have a headroom little amp i would be using with them.

thanks for your thoughts

I'd prefer the HD 595, personally - but actually I'd call both options rather a crossgrade than an upgrade from the HD 580 (i.e. more a matter of taste than a question of quality).

Greetings from Hannover!

Manfred / lini

P.S.: The DT880 seems to need some serious amping, btw...

For my taste, the DT880 is preferred.

But, as lini mentions, it really needs a good amp. I don't know of the Headroom Little is good enough, I haven't tried it. It should help considerably, though.

The HD595 is a very fine allround headphone. It has a good punchy bass, no veiled highs and is quite entertaining. Not as balanced or "correct" as the Beyer. It's quite easily driven. Soundstage is noticably smaller when compared to the Beyer.

I did prefer the HD595 over the HD600 I used to own, if that helps. It isn't as laidback or boring as the HD600.

BTW, I've yet to hear any headphone that makes female voices sound as magical as through the DT880.

It's not, it is one of the worst headamps I've heard (and that's with the more power option), it has an overly warm character that really polluted the sound and made it quite muddy as compared to a Gilmore. I doubt it is up to the challenge of the DT880.

From what I have read here...It's probably only worthwhile if the HD 595 is well amped otherwise I don't think it would be worth it.

Just to let ya know, freq. response specs don't mean too much when it comes to sound quality. And that the 555/595 are said to sound nothing like the unanimously crappy 590s.

Really? Unanimously crappy 590's? I guess I just liked 'em. It looks like the HD555 or HD595's with, say an SR-71 (when I can afford it) will be an improvement over unamped 590's. I am glad to hear the new Senns are getting some nice reviews. I am still not sure if I should go for the 590's now, knowing I'll add a portable amp later to better drive them (I'm using iPods)

I don't think either of those headphones would be a upgrade over the 580s at all.

You may like the differences in how they sound, but I certainly would not consider them an "upgrade".

Well, considering the dt880 is said to be on par with the hd600, it *may* be somewhat of an upgrade. And they are real good with female vocals.

Isn't it a matter of taste?

Some like the HD600 over the DT880 (I don't) and some like the HD580 over the HD595 (I don't).
It's all about what type of music you listen too, and what type of sound you prefer.

Read some reviews here, and see what the others are listening to and what phone they prefer. That's what's so great with this place.
