I have a pair of DT 770s that I purchased after ordering some A900s. Should I trade the A900s for an open pair of phones? I also have a pair of iM716s. Which phone sounds better, and is it worth having both? I could also trade up in amp with my phones, as I have a PA2V2.

Help please?

which can do you like better... assuming DT770... both are heavy on bass, maybe try something else... like a AKG K501 which is completely different then the two you own. Or a HD580...

I've had the DT770 and A700 at the same time, and kept the DT770. The Beyer did everything the A700 did, but better. Assuming the A900 is like a A700 but better, it might be a tough call. Just open both up and listen to them.

Is the box sealed? Could you take them out, try them and put them back in if necessary?

So you can listen to them and decide for yourself. None of us can make the right decision for you.

I know these two cans get recommended a lot when people are asking for gaming, bass, and movie cans. I have never heard the 770s but I believe they are very similar to the A900s, just a bit harder to drive though. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think they're similar at all. The 770s are VERY bass heavy and fairly bright.

The A900s are very well balanced by comparison.

Open them both.

It's the only way you'll ever really be able to decide for yourself. Sure you'll knock a little off the retail but you make up for that in gained insight. We really can't make this decision for you...

They were both reccomended to me for good closed indie rock cans.

Listining to the DT 770s, they do sound pretty heavy on the bass, especially with hip hop where you can really "feel" the impact, however its not somehting I am going to complain about. They do seem a little laidback and slow, however that also makes it another great hiphop can. Basically, are there any good rock open cans that have good soundstage, that would be a good trade for the A900s, or is there enough difference/ are they that much better/ is it worth it to have both/ any reason to keep them/ or should I trade the DT 770s instead?

I own both A900s and DT770s, along with heavy bass that you're looking for I guess another deciding factor would be are you looking for laidback sounding or a foward sounding set of cans. Both A900s and DT770s have excellent soundstage and bass. I prefer my cans to have a slightly foward sound with bass that's fast and tight, so I would lean towards the A900s.

Another deciding factor that would make me leans towards the A900s is that they are easy to drive and don't require and amp to sound good. They sound good plugged straight out of an ipod or a vintage PCDP as I don't always like to carry my portable amp with me. The DT770s are also easy to drive but really sounded it's best being fed thru an amp.

No no- not correcting. Just giving my opinion as a contrast to yours.

The 770s are indeed a tougher drive, but their signature wasn't what I'd characterize as similar at all.

I think "very bass heavy and a touch bright" will give someone a very good idea of what to expect with the 770s, though...

You could trade your DT770s for 990s. Open, good soundstage, bright as hell, quite exciting.
