Drum and bass headphones...

except at 80 ohms they struggle without an amp. i agree, they sound fantastic when driven with some power, but they don't reach their potential when coming straight out of an iPod. i tested the DT770 Pro/80 and the ATH-M50 (35 ohm) and the difference was very noticeable.

My vote. Strap 2 15" subwoofers together, place a seat on it, then sit on them.

You are done.

You should get paid by Beyerdynamic for promoting their DT770s. I think even if they only paid 25 cents per post, you'd make some good spending money.

If you can scrape together a bit more money the Denon d2000 is way to go. then do the markl mod.

Another vote for the DT770 Pro/80. Definitely bass monsters and quite suited to your listening needs. However they definitely need an amp for full potential. I've only tried the Ultrasone Proline 750 from the Ultrasone side; very close to the DT770, but edged out imo due to better comfort level and build quality. DT770's are tanks.
Some other ones I'd consider:
  1. Audio Technica A900: Balanced, bassy but not as much as DT's but easy to drive
  2. Audio Technica M50: Lot of people have said good things about this one, but haven't tried it myself
  3. Sony MDR-V6: The only Sony in the low end I'd consider. Might be harder to get for a good price in Europe. Also, really need DT-250 velour pads to bring up comfort level.
  4. Beyer DT250: If you can find these around

I'd say seriously check out the DT770/80 since you're in Europe, I'd reckon the pricing won't vary as much as other non-European brands. Maybe some of the mid tier Ultrasones as well.

another vote for the dt770/80
however they will not be "bass monsters" straight from an iPod ( I tried it - not nearly as much fun ) but with just my laptop and external sound card they give very rich, tight bass provided your music is high quality.
