So I guess I'm in the market for a new headphone amp. I'd prefer solid state but would consider a tube or hybrid amp. Source is a Topping D90. Headphones are mainly Beyer 1770/1990.

I'd spend up to 600. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Would like it to be balanced.

I would try the balanced Schiit Stack:
Amp: Schiit Magnius Black $200 USD New
DAC: Schiit Modius Black $200 USD New

I have the Modius and use it with the THX AAA 789 balanced and love the sound. If you live in the US you can get pretty good support from Schiit if something goes awry.

It turns out it may be a false alarm. Last night, the light the 789 wouldn't turn white. It would stay red indefinitely. Now, it seems to be working . Weird, huh?

You need a new backup amp in case of another problem. Don’t let lack of need stand in the way of a purchase! (And Jotenheim 2 fits in perfectly!).

Perhaps the button is getting stuck. I've read that can happen on these units.

If you've already got a D90 the A90 seems a logical companion.
