Driver mod for EMU to get Audigy 4 game sounds

Jan 29, 2005 at 5:33 PM Post #47 of 69
Anyone who has an Audigy/2 and an Emu tried them out on the Audigy to see if the two drivers can play nicely together? I dont want Audigy drivers on my Emu; I'd lose the sweet patchmix dsp.

OK, I've figured out why the volume control is grayed out for me and Magsy.

It's perfectly normal for the drivers to do this, as the PatchMix DSP needs to be installed and loaded to listen to music. The EAX software still isn't installing though, but that's because the developer didn't enable this hardware because it was buggy. I'm still going to be the tester so that we can get it working!

Thanks mattpwill for your commitment. If this will work that would just be soooo great - I would by the E-MU in a second!

So with the Audigy drivers, you can get sound if you load patchmix? It functions just like with the 0404 drivers?

ATM it seems like it's the only way possible, but I could be wrong. Of course, this isn't a bad thing

Magsy, yes they work if you install the PatchMix DSP and run it. I'm pretty sure that EAX can't be supported just with the driver but I could be wrong

Why would anyone care about this if EAX cannot be reproduced? There's no intrinsic beneift to the a4 drivers over the emu's. People only want the drivers if it enables eax in games.

Yeah but if you think ahead...

I want and like Patchmix, I would of assumed that with the A4 drivers you'd lose Patchmix.

If Patchmix works with the drivers, then if/when they can get EAX to work it will be the very best of both worlds.

My point, Matt, is that if it's not possible to get EAX to work with the EMU line, as you've admitted a possibility, then there's no particular reason to use the converted audigy drivers. Ie, at this point of development, there's no reason to make the attempt. If it is possible, then that's great. I was merely pointing out the possibility that it may not work. I think that should be established before going any further, since it would be a waste of time otherwise.

And Magsy, I said *if*.

I've paraphrased this slightly, but I've received this from one of the developers. In the last couple of days they realised that they can't get EAX from the EMU, because of the specifically written drivers.

Your sound card is able to work great and Creative's sounds have more much potential rather than now you have, but Creative is a "sharpshooter" who always writes "bad" drivers to us, for example, Audigy2 is the same as Audigy2 ZS which decodes DTS, but Creative give Audigy2 users series drviers which cannot decode DTS. it means Creative disable these funcitons you can use on their purpose and don't allow you to use them.

In the aspect of hardware, your card supports EAX! But Creative who does NOT want you to use it(and your card has more and more functionality than EAX as you know). Creative gives the drivers which disable your Functions you ought to have. But EMU card is much different from Audigy series card , so the drivers are also different. If you want to have these functions, you have to re-write your sound card drivers which require sound card blueprint and computer engineers(experts). I think there are persons who have done this but they cannot release it, unless Creative will suit them and send them to prison. (if YouP gets this blueprint, he also can program one for EMU users).
But you don't need to warry about it. I think Creative will release those copyrights of your card when it launches new sound card.

Bad news I'm afraid
