I just ordered a few hammond 1455 cases for some pimetas and was wondering how to drill the faceplaces. The faceplates i "reckon" are aluminum and seem kinda thick. I dont have access to any machinery or the such except an old black&decker drill. Would this work, or should i get someone else to do it.

Your hand drill will work fine, it's the bit that's the key. Drilling up to 0.5" holes, I use a Unibit stepped drill bit. Anything larger than 0.5" you're going to need to get a panel punch.

And if you decide to pick up a Unibit, look on eBay first! I picked up a couple last week, the #2 for $8, and a #4 for $19. Both great deals, compared to the "new" prices I'd seen everywhere else. Both of them were "new-in-box", neither have ever been used.

If you don't have to do very big holes like 0.5", regular drill bits will work just fine. Just start with a small bit and then change to a bigger one. And here is a metric example 2mm -> 4mm -> 6mm -> 8mm. Poor man's stepped drill

BTW that Unibit "#2" costs about $80 here in Finland.
