(The schematic is attached)

Hey guys, I'm trying to get a clean 480P signal outta my Dreamcast, I thought of making a DIY VGA cable, but since my PJ already has the VGA bit being used (I have DVI too) I thought why can't I make a the DC output component since VGA and component are sorta the same thing right? Also I want to use this with my friends TV's (component but no VGA).

Instead of making a vga output can I somehow make it so its component by using rca plugs to go from the 14-16 connectors on the DC to RGB? The vga circuit appears to not have RGB grounds so I'm assuming components wouldn't need grounds either? My projector also has a sync rca input for the component - whats that for?

Thanks!

A quick look around the net indicates that this can't be done.....though I'm sure with some ingenuity it could be. VGA and component are 'sorta' the same thing, but the 'sorta' is key here. Your problem rather is not enough inputs on your proj

. Get one of these http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...p?EdpNo=525173 and be done with it! No messing about with schematics and brainpower.

[edit] You want to connect it via component on your friend's TV as well. Dash that option then. A vga-to-component box will then fully solve your problem licketysplit http://www.smarthome.com/777060.html.

Well... Why wouldn't it work? I mean don't I have the RGB signals?

EDIT: I can always use a DVI > VGA adapter so its not a lack of inputs on my part.

I think my PJ has a sync thingy and accepts RGB so...

If you look at the thing at the bottom with the 3 rca plugs... Couldn't I just take the horiz sync and vert sync and put that on RCA and plug that into the sync connection on the PJ?

EDIT: More searching on the net makes me think it's best if I just make the VGA cable...

Okay...bumping again because I have another question...

Do I need the 74HCT244 IC? Because I'm not making the switch thing I'm just idrectly going to VGA, so cant I just use the three 220uf caps for the RGB part of the VGA connector and 150ohm resistors for the H and V sync and then just plug it into the dreamcast connectors? Would that work or just destroy something?

They are grounded.

Ah! That makes sense now.

Okay so my parts list be...
2 diodes (have)
3 220uf caps (have)
2 150 ohm resistors (might have)
2 4.7k ohm resistors (have)
a switch (mite need)
Some wires (mite need)
