I'm wondering if anyone could recommend which album to get for this song.

It's a bit old... but it only "arrived" into my country this past summer. After searching the web, I realized the song is also called "Mai ya hee" and that the original version was sung by this Romanian (?) boyband O-Zone, while it was made popular by Haiducii, at Euro Vision 2004.

To cut a long story short. There seems to be 3 or 4 albums with this song between the two artists.

Anyone knows which album to get for the "best" version?

Thanks!

O-Zone are a Moldovan "boy band" (so nearly Romanian, although I wouldn't dare say that to a Moldovan), and the track is, as far as I know, originally on their album DiscOZone. The song was unavoidable a couple of years ago here, along with the other single Numai Tu (Only You), both of which I never want to hear again........... Still it beats the Cheeky Girls so to speak (hopefully that comment will mean nothing to the non-Europeans here, and if it does I feel your pain).

The Haiducii version by the way was not as popular across Europe.

I'm contemplating whether to get the full O-Zone album or just the single (which has remixes of the same song).

I have this irking feeling that the band might only have 1 good song.

As such, maybe a single would serve my listening pleasure better.

Alo, salut ...
Don't know what the album sounds like, but I certainly know the string of singles over a few years, from countless times heard on the TV and radio. Unless you have a thing for Europop/dance boy bands I would go for the single - although they were definitely more popular here than just one hit wonders, which may mean something or it may not.

Ok... I'm managed to compare the two versions.

IMO, I prefer the Haducii version over the original O-zone. The song sounds more natural with Haducii's lively alto voice. The O-zone version sounds too digitized (like those typical boy bands where everyone has ultra tenor voices). The fact that you have a female singer and a male singer in the Haducii version also makes the song more fun.

However, the O-zone version does sound more exciting because of the louder treble. Although the tempo is essentially the same on both, the Haducii version sounds "slower" because it's not as sharp and bright.

Also - get the single if you opt for the O-zone version. The other songs are nothing to write home about.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for all the replies!

To be more precise...

Headfi - where people actually spend time doing serious auditions on various versions of a boy-band song. And post recommendations on the "best" version.

Well, if it makes me feel any saner, at least I didn't whip out the HD600 and the HR-2 for this particular listening session.
