I'm looking for a decent sounding DAC. Mainly for connecting to a laptop. I have several outboard headphone amps already.
Most reviews about the various Dragonfly I've come across are centered on its headphone driving, not its "Line Out" prowess.
I'm willing to fork over $300.00 USD if the Cobalt (or any other similar-priced DAC) is truly bang-for-THAT-buck.
On the other hand, the DAC I select does not have to be ultra-compact.
I'm okay with a dongle DAC. Say...
https://hifimediy.com/product/s2-dac/
The HiFimediy model uses the same ESS dac chip as the Cobalt, and is less than 1/3 the price of the Cobalt.
But how do the they compare sonically -- esp. when used in "Line Out" mode?
Please provide some feedback.Thx!
