After listening to the 580s for gaming, I find they are too open and has a big soundstage that doesn't help me much for gaming.
I'm thinking of sub 100$ headphones
the only pair I can think of is the sony v6. I want to avoid the laidbackness of the 580s.. I also will be using these for casual use,(they'll get banged up)and fast hitting music(hiphop, rock). Any other recommendations?

i will second the ATH-A*** series. Great headphones. Also maybe a cheap pair of grados (SR60-SR80), but those are open.

I used my A500s as a final farewell today while gaming at my friend's house. I sold them to him.

Goodbye faithful friends, I shall miss thee.

They ripped...playing CS was easy with them.

When I still had them, I thought the HD535s were pretty good for gaming. A certain degree of openess is very useful at lan parties (haven't been to one of those for a long while

But I think the HE60 is better for games

I would say any of this three would work for your purposes.

1) Audiotechnia A500
2) Sony V6
3) Sennheiser HD-280Pro

I will second the recommendation for the ATH-A500, as I have been in heaven with them for all of my music needs, and for Call of Duty, MOHAA, Americas Army, UT2k3 & 4, Battlefield: Vietnam, you name it.

The Beyer DT250-80s and AKG K271S are great phones for gaming, because they are closed, $150ish, and have a great sound - the Beyers have better imaging and put things in your face, the K271S has great high end detail.

You don't want a basshead phone for gaming; that will muddy the sound, blur details, distance you from the playing field, and generally anger you if you're gaming on a professional level.

The DT250-80s need no amp; the K271S need a decent amp for best results.

Cheers,
Geek
