I own a Creative X-Fi Titanium HD sound card and Razer Mako 2.1 speaker system. I was wondering if it would make any sense to try and play 5.1 sound through these speakers? I have movies that are Dolby and DTS supported so if I set my speaker profile to 5.1 and set the encoder to Dolby or DTS, would I get virtual 5.1 sound? I can hear all 5 channels when I do the windows audio 5.1 speaker test.

Thanks in advance

The thing you have to make sure of is that you can distinguish the front and rear left/right channels easily. If you can do that, you should be good to go.

I was going to suggest 2 speaker mode + CMSS-3D Virtual as a possible solution, but that wouldn't work on Vista/Win7 because of how it synchronizes the X-Fi control panel and the Windows sound control panel if the former is set to Headphones, and chances are you won't get the rear channels if Windows isn't set to 5.1.
