Ive been reading up on the whole PCM vs Bitstream options for Playstation 4. PCM = The console handles the decoding of the PCM stream from the game. Bitstream = PCM stream from the game gets passthrough to the receiver for decoding.
But out of curiousity, why are games even branded with Dolby Digital and DTS like newly released Ghost of Tsushima? What is even the point if PCM is uncompressed and that works just as good? I see even Denon recommends setting your PS4 to Bitstream instead of PCM but reading what "experts" are saying, PCM is the better choice (lower latency) and provides the same quality so i just dont get it. Is games branded with Dolby Digital and DTS doing more than just compression?
