I posted this https://www.head-fi.org/threads/goi...soon-or-are-we-there-yet.861024/post-15666156 about Samsung Galaxy Buds+ paired to my Mac (High Sierra 10.13.6) and while fine with the O/S and iTunes, as soon as I try to use any app that uses the mic (like QuickTIme to test the mic, or Zoom/Ring conferencing), the phones output (sound not mic) switches from 32bit to 16 bit 8KHZ, and sounds terrible...

What it seems with the Buds+ is when only listening to audio, SBC/AAC codec is used, but as soon as apps such as QuickTIme, Zoom or Ring are launched the codec changes to SCO, and the format drops from 2 channel 32 bit 44.1KHz to 1 channel 16 bit 8KHz.

I contacted Samsung support who basically said while the Buds+ are supported on MAC, I should send Samsung and Apple feedback so they can improve in the future.

Do other people’s Buds+ or other non Apple TWSs behave the same way, or work with the mic? This was my sole reason for purchasing them, so rather disappointing.

Cheers

What makes them non-compatible?
From testing

MacBook Pro 2013/2014 with High Sierra 10.13.6 – Incompatible
  • Listening to music
    • AAC Codec, 2 channel 32 bit 44.1kHz
  • Zoom
    • SCO Codec, 1 channel 16 bit 8kHz

MacBook Air Early 2015 with Catalina 10.15.5 – Incompatible

MacBook Pro 2019 with Catalina 10.15.5 – Compatible

  • Listening to music
    • AAC Codec, 2 channel 32-bit float 48kHz
    • Mic, 1 ch 16-bit integer 16kHz
  • Zoom
    • SCO Codec, 1 channel 16-bit 16kHz
    • Mic, 1 ch 16-bit integer 16kHz

Can only assume the Buds+ don’t work with old hardware, or rather as the Buds+ switch their codec (and the laptop operating system too), switching to 1 ch 16 bit at 8kHz causes the issue, but Samsung support didn’t want to investigate.

Sorry to wake up old thread but I think this works best for my question.

Anybody else having issues with JLAB Epic Lab Edition earbuds and MacOS / Macbooks?
I can't get mic to work with my MBP 2020 M1 when connecting with bluetooth. It works just fine with usb-c dongle that comes with the earbuds.
But as there are only two usb-c ports and the dongle is too wide I can't use the dongle.
Bluetooth connection and mic works fine with Windows / PC computers and iPhone. So the earbuds are not broken.

I have asked from the support but they say earbuds are compatible with MacOS.
