Afaik this is a per-song/video/whatever setting and the adjustment ranges from -100% to +100%. That plus is important because just 100% would mean full, unaltered volume but +100% means possibly dynamic range compression which does lower sound quality.
Just take a modern song that is already compressed and set the adjustment to +100%. Do you hear an increase in volume, especially during quiet passages? Then it's dynamic range compression which I'd avoid.

Depending on how the volume control was implemented you are fine, get clipping, or like mentioned above, a loss in dynamic range.
