I'm looking for death metal style music, but without the growling. I really like the fast paced guitar and drums, but can't stand the singer roaring the entire time. Also, lyrics that aren't to offensive would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Youre gonna have to go old school to really find it. Metallica Pre-black album is pretty good. (the black album is....not...metal....)

IMHO, the growling is something you have to get used to in order to find really good metal these days.

Give Mesuggah a try. Them and Opeth.

Just keep listening to it and you'll soon become quite accustomed to it. Opeth would sound kind of dry without the growling; they do it very nicely and its not just indicipherable gurgling.

Blast beats with no cookie monster vocals? You're gonna have a tough time with that one. Not many instrumental death acts around. I can get you plenty of heavy midtempo groups with clean vocals (see Grand Magus: "Wolf's Return" as an example) but not much at hyper speeds. Check into the more progressive side of the metal house maybe.

Maybe you'd like "The ****ing Champs" ?

Sometimes I am really in the mood for that stuff too, what I gradually came to love was motorhead, although its obviously a taste thing...maybe give it a shot

Death is hard to find w/o the growling, although I find most Opeth not only tolerable as far as the growling goes, but the music itself is fantastic.

When I need my metal dose, I usually stick with the classics, like Metallica, Megadeath and of course Pantera. You might try some Deftones as well for a more Hardcore approach. Id also HIGHLY recommend the new Korn album (yes, Korn) its a terrific piece of work with elements of Hardcore, Metal and Industrial throughout.

If you want to try some artsy-more progressive Metal, checkout the Sense Apparatus by Frantic Bleep ala an ASMOX recommendation. Again, another album that contains a variety of metal elements, great singer, tremendous music-a real gem.

Lastly, I find most people who like speed/death metal really like Ministry. More aggro-industrial here but IMO contains a nice array of "metal characteristics". If you dont own Land Of Rape and Honey, Psalm 69 and A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, wel...then...you need to get ur head examined.
