Does the sound of a DAP matter when plugged into an amp?

The reason I'm asking this is that I've been disappointed by the iPod Classic 7th gen.'s lack of bass and prominent thin, irritating treble.

I'm wondering if the sound of the player actually affects the sound coming from an amp. As in, does the player interfere with the good sound from an amp?

Of course, everything upstream of the amp will affect the final sound production including the type of master recordings, the encoding, the resolution, the digital format, the power supply, the music player or DAP to the mode of connection.  For instance, headphone out into the amp will differ significantly from the Line out  into the amp.  Also, the player doesn't interfere with the good sound of the amp.  The amp doesn't make the sound, it only amplifies it.  The good sound comes from everything before it reaches the amp.
