Does the M30x need an amp to perform at its best?

That would depend on your source. Under most circumstance I would say no. You might be better off getting a better HP than spending the $ on a amp.

What's your source?

But it woudn't hurt to get an amp since you can buy extremely cheap ones. And it will help your headphone achieve it's best sound. But the most important is the source and the headphones itself. I think you can get better headphones..

Hope this helps.

I listen to electro, pop, and games OST(which I really don't know what genre it is, it has no vocal and lots of instrumental sound). Sorry for bad English since I'm not a native speaker

I have a Sony NWZ mp3 player and an IEM but I'm going to give it to my brother and buy another one for the upcoming headphone. Can you recommend me a music player that can play FLAC and a headphone ? My budget is about $160, things are more expensive in here .

Will you use it as a home equipment? Or for portable use?
Do you like bassy cans? Or cans that has a lot of soundstage? Maybe vivid vocals?

Tell us more about what you like, so we can have more input about the can that suits you.

Well you might want to look into a Sandisk Clip Zip Rockboxed with Fiio E6 amp. If you use the Rockbox free software it will take a 64GB micro card. Look at the Sennheiser HD439 or HD449 there pretty cheap now. They will be better than the M30x for sure. Its also very portable. You could get by without the amp but it makes the setup small but mighty. It will play FLAC

+1

Even though I have a better set up now, in many ways I still miss my Clip+. It's a great little player with a massive bang to buck ratio IMHO.
