I have heard that some sound cards are 'bit perfect' and some are not.
How do I find out if mine is? I am using the optical out from the 'Audio max 7.1' that comes with the Abit AN8 ultra motherboard. I can't seem to find what chip it uses etc.
And perhaps more importantly is there really any difference between the digital outs of different cards? Surely it's just numbers? (Although I'm sure somebody once said that about CD players all sounding the same!!
)
(I'm asking as I'm hoping to get a nice DAC / headphone amp to go with my Senn 595's - but thought I'd best make sure the 'source' was spot on first.)
Many thanks if you can help!
