Does iTunes remove replay gain data in MP3 files?

I've been experiencing loss of replay gain data stored as tags in my MP3 files and I suspect that this is due to iTunes. I use EAC for ripping, Foobar for day to day audio playback and iTunes only for syncing (and creating playlists) to iPod.

Normally, I rip with EAC, import to Foobar (now automatically done by Foobar), then manually trigger replay gain scan (as tags). After this, I close Foobar, launch iTunes, manually import the folder and manually add the album art.

Often, when I start playing the tracks in Foobar, the replay gain data is gone and I am forced to rescan. Very frustrating.

My guess is iTunes does something to the replay gain data. Does anyone have the experience? Would importing tracks to iTunes prior to Foobar help?

I don't have any experience with this particular issue but I'd like to say that if iTunes really does this its an epic fail. . . On my old computer I tried using iTunes once and it added a bunch of incorrect album art to some of my mp3s. . .

Why not just use Foobar?
