I purchased my 5th Gen iPod at an Apple Store the first day it was available retail here in the US. The GoPod says my iPod is "volume capped," so I uncap it, and there really is no difference in the volume. False positive?

At a guess, but this is only a guess mind, I should imagine it is only capped in europe as the EU have regulations on maximum output to prevent hearing loss. Hence features such as AVLS on Sony players.

Yeah - a US iPod won't be capped, so false positive.
Unless Apple know something about pending legislation that we don't...

I used to use iMod on my early iPod Photo - there is no way you would not notice the difference...the vol cap is pretty severe.
I haven't bothered for the last couple of iPod updaters (which reset the cap) because I'm amped all the time now.
