I know that Sennheisser MX400/500 are of better value for the price compared with Sony MDR-E888. But does anyone who owned both of them actually prefer MX400/500 to 888? I am thinking about getting MX400 but i already have 888. And for someone who owned both MX400/500, did you find both sound pretty much the same?
Thanks,

NEO...

It depends on how fresh your pair of E888s are, and what you're running them through... the MX400 seems to like the E905/D777 better than the E888, but the E888 obliterates the Senns on my MZ-E10 MD...

My old pair of E888s that were overburnt aren't good for anything though... so if you want a cheap pair of buds that aren't gonna sound like crap within a couple of years, pick the Senns up

I don't really like E888...
true they havetransparentsound, seem like coming from outside, surrounding you, good midrange and clarity.
However, they lack the punch in bass and overall the sound is abit tinny to me. I couldn't get used to it... probably because all the cans that I have owned are abit dark in nature.. and has punchydeep bass.

Sennheiser mx500 is much better imo. Punchier and more realistic bass.Overall the sound is almost on par, if not on par with the e888. Plus, they cost about 1/3 the price of e888.

Now I am waiting for my friend's ksc35. From the reviews, I can say that this baby is my cup of tea.

It depends on which sound character you like...

Well, my recent experience with the Sennheiser MX400/500 indicates that they sounded hollow, because I couldn't get them to properly fit my ears at all, with or without the foamies...

I prefer the Sony MDR-E888 overall, if only because it fits my ears better than most other earbuds.

Actually, a lot of people prefer the MX 400/500 to the 888. If you do a search (ahem) you'll find a lot of posts where people say they like the Senns better. I know I do; IMO the Senns are much more balanced and accurate than the 888.

P.S. I heard from a friend recently that Sony has officially discontinued the entire 888 line. I have my doubts, but supposedly this came from a Sony marketing person.
