to music at home. I was thinking about this because housing costs and higher rents may mean alot of people will be living in smaller places. As we all know speakers need some space to sound good. Small houses and apartments don't always allow for speakers to sound their best. Would this and the cost/preformance of headphone systems make headphone listening the leading way to listen to music or movies in the near furture?

Nope.

What I strongly believe is that headphones are used for listening to music, while speakers (good ones, that is) are used for feeling the music.
