There's a huge difference between a cheap source and high end when using good speakers but when using $20 headphones, will the difference a $80 dac/amp make be worth it?

I don`t think there is a general answer to that question. It depends on so many factors. First, what earphones do you want to use with what source? Pairing is the key word. Second: How do you define "huge difference"? Differences between sources are usually quite subtle. For sure a lot smaller than between earphones themselves. Which leads to another interesting question: Wouldn`t it make much more sense to spend the 80 dollars on a better earphone?
