Do any of you guys that use protein powders know of a few good recipes for shakes? I've had luck using soy milk and honey. Has a really good taste to it.

The only thing I've ever done other than mix protein with water or milk was add a scoop to my oatmeal (1 cup of skim milk, 1 cup oats, 1 spoonful peanut butter).

My favorite is Creatine. I've been cycling it since 1995 with good results. First time I began using it I was amazed at my increase in power with low reps. I use 10 grams per day (Prosource brand).

I use a basic vit/min gel cap also.

I've also been using EAS Myoplex choc.(reg) for about 10 years. My recipe for this is chopped ice, water, one Myoplex, 3 packs Equal, 15 drops liquid stevia, 1.5 TBS. dark Hershey cocoa, one TSP. pure vanilla extract, 1.5 TBS. Smuckers natural PB...chocolate lovers treat, tastes too sweet to be true.

I also make a 30 gram whey protein drink to take to work using Prosource (Prosource.net) Nitro Whey Extreme(strawberry), stevia, creatine, and some raspberry ice crystal light.

I also like Labrada Lean Body Apple-Cinnamon shakes which I drink for breakfast.

I try to keep my protein intake at least 150 grams per day.

1 scoop of vanilla whey, 1 scoop of ANPB, non-fat milk. It's soooo good.

You have good taste. Raw oats with milk and peanut butter is tasty.

I used to be a big supplement person so here I go...

Gaspari Size On is some good creatine! Expensive but good, I used to use Superpump 250 with it and got good gains.

Right now I just use Protein Isolate and Multivitamins. Protein prices are going up every month (including dairy prices).

If you want a good tasting protein try BSL flavoring with regular protein, WPI Substance (PM me if you need link), Isopure, Dymatize Whey, and Syntrax Nectar (I've heard Fuzzy Navel is the most amazing protein ever).

Last I heard Substance was discontinued. And I think I may be the only person who hated Substance. It was very highly regarded, so I tried it. I thought it mixed terribly and tasted even worse.

Ergopharm GF Pro is another protein that's very highly regarded. A bit expensive, but reportedly very worth it.

Sounds like some tasty recipes. I have oatmeal in my cabinets so I'll try oats and honey tonight. Also when do you guys normally drink your shakes. I'm taking the creatine at night since I work out in the AM. I had a shake last night and one this morning after my workout.

GF Pro is good so is I Pro (if they still sell it.)

Yeah, Substance is discontinued but I think BN still sells it for $15.99 (2lb vanilla and grape flavors), I have a free shipping coupon if anyone is interested..

I drink a shake for breakfast, then 90 min. before workout which is at 7:30 PM(with 5 grams creatine) and 30 min after workout (with 5 grams creatine).

From my experience, ingesting creatine is best done before & after workouts. And don't forget to drink as much water as possible at all times throughout the day.

Drinking a quick release protein such as a high quality whey isolate very soon after workout is a recommended.

Don't forget your carbs post-workout, either.

absolutely. i hear carbs > protein post workout, though it's essential to have both within 15-25 minutes after.

as for recipes, i usually have my whatever choice of [protein with milk + banana + NATURAL peanut butter + kashi go lean cereal].

anyone ever try low sodium cottage cheese mixed with natural peanut butter before bedtime? it's an aquired taste due to the salty flavor of the cottage cheese, but i hear it provides an anti-catabolic effect while you sleep to preserve and build the muscle you're working on.

I don't know if carbs are better than protein for post-workout, but you certainly need them if you're looking to add mass. It allows you to replenish your glycogen stores but it also serves to create an insulin spike to stop muscle breakdown and shuttle protein through your system.

I usually just eat cottage cheese before I go to bed for the reason you mentioned. I can't imagine mixing it with peanut butter. But then again, I have mixed cottage cheese and tuna before.

I take one GNC 'Mega Mens' multivitamin every other day. I figure I get most of my vitamins and nutrients through my fairly well balanced diet, and what I don't, the vitamin should 'pick up the slack for'.

I only use whey protein, namely Optimum Chocolate Supreme. I usually mix that with some dextrose to make my shake (tastes a little like cookies n' creme, as a friend once pointed out to me). A few days ago I tried putting in half a banana instead of the dextrose and it tasted great! I'd recommend giving that a try.

I would also be using casein if it weren't for my severe lactardation.

Oh, and my favorite supplement? The good, old-fashioned cod liver oil I used to pour in a teaspoon then down the hatch before going to bed. But I wussed out a while ago and switched to pills.
