I just picked up a Coby DVD717 portable DVD/CD/MP3 player with coaxial digital output as well as audio line out. This unit comes in a bubble pack with AC and DC adapters as well as a remote control.

The unit has a choice of digital outputs either SPDIF/RAW or SPDIF/PCM, with RAW as the default. To change it you have to connect the unit to a TV so you can program it.

The price was $69.99! I got mine at a Pilot Travel Center, as they are popular with truck drivers (like me!).

The thing may be crap but for that price, it's fun to play with.
