Very rarely!! As far as I am concerened listening to the local radio stations in the uk is nothing worse than going to the dentist (or your all time worst nightmare whatever that might be!) the same song being played twice in 20 minutes anyone?? Since getting Sky digital there has been a bit of success though with totalrock.com with a great show on saturdays from six where they get special guests in on a regular basis, like virtually every other week!! During the week its the same old same old I am afraid!!

Though I sometimes listen to the "classic rock" stations, most of the stations here in the Chicago area play those ********* top-40 pieces of crap. And though I sometimes listen to those crappy songs, I don't like any of them enough to justify buying them on CD.

I used to listen to the two Chicago classical radio stations. Both stations had pretty high quality signals, and whenever one started talking I'd switch over to the other. Earlier this year however, tragedy struck and 97.1 went under and turned into some bloody pop station. WFMT's selection seems to have changed gears towards more modernist works, which at times are a bit too dissonant for my liking. What a shame. I now listen to radio once in a while over the internet at some of the higher bitrate stations like KUSC (96kbps) or WNPR (>128kbps).

College radio stations can be great.

It can be a great way to discover obscure singer song writers who are really good.

There’s also a lot of artists who never got really famous and they still had some great songs from the old days and when you discover their old music, it feels fresh and exciting.

There was this one college station that played a bunch of Japanese pop songs from the 1980s for an hour. Lots of obscure stuff out there that can potentially be really good.

I listen several nights a week to shows by Community radio. It has introduced me to much music which escaped me during previous decades.

^ Yes good point. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about music but I like the idea of radio introducing me to music.

I know you can do that with Pandora radio and other apps, but there is a nice human vibe to it when there’s a disc jockey being the host of a radio show.

Also they can make some concert announcements of a particular less known musician who’s playing at a local small theater which is something that’s more personal than listening to random songs on YouTube.

Also listening to the radio and being off line can be a nice refreshing form of escapism.
