Well the right ear bud stopped working. Just wondering if I re-wire them, would there a possibility to make them work again?

I read some posts and I think i should get Mogami 2893 Mini Quad Cable and Neutrik NYS231BG 3.5 Stereo Mini plug Cryo Treated(how much smaller or bigger is it from the vinnila one?). Does that sound OK?
my soldering iron isn't very good. got it cheep at The Source. takes like a hour to heat up. Will i have trouble?
Also don't have a heat gun for those shrink thingys. anything else i could use instead.
I think I need something to cover the wires? where can i get those?
