Rated: Cheap and Good as for portable use

this is what i get from the audio shop that i normally get my cans from. I wonder what he's going to get me? Anyone got any idea on what the model of amp that he is going to recommend to me. It's quite strange for me to consult him about the need to get a headamp for my HD 202,he just recommend me one and say i should get that one. Pretty strange huh?

Anyway, i would give it a try.At least u would never know of learn something if u never dare to try. But if it's out of my budget, maybe i would heard the "Ouch!" from my wallet....sigh

mychew,

don't believe anything your uncle says about headphones. he obvioiusly knows more about speakers than he does headphones, which by the way are two different beasts. with a headphone amp, you'll be able to turn the volume down to low levels without losing any quality...bass, treble, and details. it is a wonderful thing, the headphone amp. it will turn your entry level cans into 100$ cans, no doubt, and also take you to the next level of listening. you surely won't regret it

that's what i think so. because he's just doing the work of repairing audio devices and know how to make an amp.I don't really think that he is sort of audiophile of head-fi. Sorry, i forgot to mention about the amp that the boss recommend to me, it's a portable amp.

mychew,

if you have a receiver around (and who doesn't these days), compare the sound from your soundcard and from the laptop connected to the AUX or TAPE-IN on the receiver.

On my Sound Blaster Live the hiss goes away, the bass is firmed up, the dynamics are increased, etc. when it is connected to an external receiver/amp.

Hey, it's just a test, and it shouldn't cost you anything, just hook up some RCA cables to a minijack and connect the two devices together.

I did have a receiver, but for me,now i'm living outside and therefore definitely are not carrying along with me. Maybe when i go back to my hometown i can give it a try. For now, if i need a better sound output, i think i might need to get a headamp right? But one thing i need to ask, if i connect the headout from my laptop to a headamp and then plug in my cans...would the sound improve? And one last thing, are all the cables required to connect source to the amp and from the amp to the cans included?i mean when i get the headamp. or i need to buy it separately?and sorry to ask for your explanation on RCA cables

i think i should try it out when i go back to my hometown..
can tell u, not many ppl in my hometown would wear headphone out in the street and many of them go for Sony, because they just simply think that Sony produce nice stuff compare to other brands.

perhaps i need to borrow a receiver or amp from my amp if i am really too eaget to find it out before i go back...by the way, normally a portable amp would come with dual power source(AC and DC) or just run on batteries(DC)?
