Generally, Skullcandies are fashion first, sound quality second. Their aviators are supposedly half decent from what I've read on this site, but probably above your budget. If you're looking for bass on a budget, I'd recommend Sony XB-500's or 700's. I've listened to the 500's, and they were very bassy for their price point, although it wasn't of highest quality. The mids and highs left more to be desired for me as well to be honest, they were veiled and it just put me off a little. But if all you need is bass, I'd go for it.

Actually, Skullcandy is starting to get a bit of rep in the head-fi industry, with their Aviator and MixMaster models. The rest however, are utter crap. Completely.

This. I listened to a pair of Skullcrushers from a friend who wanted a headphone upgrade. My word, those things were a muddy wreck of a headphone.

Exactly ~ interesting times at SkullCandy. I was blown away by the Aviators,
I remember smugly picking them up thinking 'Here we go, this will sound like
 a Senn HD201 or worse'.

How wrong I was, they were fairly grain free, a bit dark but overall a fairly
pleasant pop biased listen. Build quality is still a major worry.

MixMasters landed in Melbourne last week so keen to hear those
as the potential realisation of what the Beat Studios were meant
to achieve in the first place. $130aud cheaper too.

Maybe Skullcandy will be diving into the realm of the HD800, LCD2, T1 territory *laughs*

*stops laughing after realising the possibility isn't that low*

I had an hour long listen to the aviators :S

In my opinion they were okay, but no way worth the $250

Sounded like a HD 201 with more and better bass, but that was it. Seemed pretty boring and waaay too smooth for me and didn't do vocals especially well for me.

Of course not. The Aviators cost $150.

Viral Razor I'm guessing that you are in Australia too? The Aviators are $150 in USD. For $150 they are not too bad IMO.

Glad you clarified, because I was thinking "what store is totally ripping people off by selling them for $250".  I agree that at $150 they are good'ish.  Not really the type of sound that I like, but some might prefer their sound.
