what exactly is the difference between an amplifier and a receiver? receiver = amp/preamp/tuner all-in-one?

Generally speaking, these old receivers have very good analog radio tuners as well. Today's cheap built-in digital tuners are no match. See how much you're getting out of a good old receiver. The key is finding an excellent condition receiver.
