I'm wondering whether or not it's really a big difference listening between a 3.5mm and a 6.3mm plug.

In terms of sound, no, not to my knowledge.

The difference is only physical. 6.3mm is more sturdy and generally used more in desktop applications, whereas the 3.5mm sees the majority of portable use.

Provided it works, any active ground plug is fine

I like 6.3 mm because it's easier to handle and because it would seem to last longer and have a lesser chance of being bent.

Yeah, the 3.5 from my computer was bothering me because it always fell out or half fell out which messed up the depth of the sound.
